We regret to announce that K9 Rommel of the Florida Gulf Coast University Weapons and Equipment Research Institute passed away Sunday morning after an extended illness (degenerative myalopathy). Rommel was nationally recognized as a public relations dog within the state university system and responsible for the establishment of dozens of non-aggressive canine units around the continental United States. He was instrumental in numerous published research projects and demonstrated how a well-trained service dog could be both effective and affectionate to large groups at canine demonstrations.

His loss will be felt not only both those that worked with him but to literally hundreds of criminal justice students that have benefited from his performances within the academic classroom. He was also a partner, a friend, and a family member who will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
